Art in heritage Sites

I conceptualize and curate artistic exhibitions in Uganda’s heritage sites, with a particular focus on Jinja, a city rich in history and culture. My work is rooted in the belief that art can play a crusial role in reimagining and revitalizing spaces that once held great significance in Uganda’s history. Through this process of curating, I aim to bridge the past with the present, bringing together the country’s historical narratives and contemporary artistic expressions in a harmonious way.

The goal of my curatorial practice is to reinvent these heritage spaces, not by attempting to erase or overshadow their past, but by allowing them to coexist with new, innovative forms of artistic expression. Rather than seeing history and modern art as opposing forces, I view them as complementary elements that can coexist to give greater purpose and meaning to both. The exhibitions I design seek to highlight the timeless nature of heritage while also celebrating the dynamism of contemporary art, creating a dialogue between the two that is both enriching and thought-provoking.

Most of the works I curate are installation projects, Many of which are my own, while other featured works are from a select group of artists within my network. Through this curatorial approach, I hope to expand the scope of this concept and nurturing a growing movement of artists who see the potential in reimagining historical spaces. As time progresses, I aspire to expand this initiative, broadening the reach and impact of these exhibitions, and encouraging more artists to explore the intersection of Uganda’s rich heritage and contemporary artistic practice.
